<<Note: blog cannot go live until June 7, per the White House. >>
It's been a humbling couple of weeks for me! I was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama to be the guest chef for a very special event in Los Angeles! Tomorrow, on Fri., June 8, I'll be guest chef at Mrs. Obama's second anniversary event celebrating the national "Let's Move!" campaign, a plan to abolish childhood obesity within a generation. Did you know that by 2030, 40 percent of Americans will be obese? The headlines call that startling, I call it a horror story. That prediction scares me! I worry for our children and future generations. It doesn't have to be this way, and there's so much we can do.
Check your local listings and tune into NBC's Access Hollywood on June 8. And check back here, I'll share my recipes, video and more from the event, held at the "West Coast White House," aka the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Hello, World!
Aloha, and welcome to my Belicious blog! I'm Chef Kim Johnson, and I believe that food should be beneficial and delicious, BELICIOUS! I'm so thrilled that in my new role as America's Top Chef, I can show folks how to cook and eat beliciously. And as the new executive chef for Pair Tree restaurants, I can share the flavors and philosophy of belicious eating. But this blog will help me reach anyone who wants to eat for maximum health and pleasure. I'll share recipes, thoughts, photos, video and other mouth-watering morsels for you to sink your teeth into.

Mrs. Jack Johnson
I know everybody wants to know: what's it like being married to Jack Johnson? Well, it's no different than any great love story where you have two people madly in love, who play house, have babies, get married (yes, in that order, thankyouverymuch) and vow to stay in love and together forever. I knew Jack when he had no money, no Grammy, and no media circus following him around. He's still that Jack to me, still the same sweet guy who taped love notes to my bike at U.C. Santa Barbara. He always will be.
Refrigerator Recipe: Amazing Celery Salad!
Don't you hate reading food blogs, salivating over a post, then discovering that there are too many ingredients, or calories, or dollars, or something to prevent you from creating it at home? I sure do! So I'm sharing Refrigerator Recipes weekly, recipes featuring ingredients you probably have on hand. Here's one my friend and fellow chef/blogger @Devany Vickery-Davidson of Hilo, Hawaii shared with me, and I've shamelessly stolen. But I've adapted it for maximum nutrition and local sustainability. On Pair Tree menus, I will use Hawaiian macadamia nuts instead of walnuts. Improvise, and enjoy!
